Krazie and Eliad of Unholy Trinity (such a well omened name!) met me at the portal, checked our supplies and then led us through to the other side...
...where we were immediately set upon by a scareling but we put the fright into it! After raising invisibility or stealth spells for all, we set out in search of the fabled Temple of Fear. Along the way we saw many incredible sights and, I am happy to say, we escaped with our lives (and just a little singe on one wing, but who's complaining?). Escape we did and so, dear reader, you may find below my notes upon this first expedition.

Bludwyng's Field Notes: The Shard of Fear
- We passed a graveyard filled with zombies and what looked, at a safe distance, like undead frogloks (as if Frogloks weren't annoying enough while alive!). Krazie commented that they will give you warts, and that if you touch the headstones more of them come running. We chose to do neither.

- We found a strange ritual triskele at -297,21,189, by my gnomish thingy the Disciples loaned me, attended by Thulian Lizardmen. The center of the triskele was empty but on each of the 3 ends stood a Thulian caller. On a hunch, we snuck past them to the center and then attacked and killed one of them. I don't know why we dragged the corpse to the center but when we did a horde of attackers appeared! We soon silenced them and discovered a heart of fear. The first one was so much fun that we killed the other two. Thinking these hearts looked odd enough that they might fetch a good price, I packed them away to take with us. Oh, yeah, and the Disciples might wanna look at one, too. I wonder if I could get a better price from the Scorned?
- While sneaking through a crevasse in the hills near the triskele, we saw an amazing Dracoliche! For whatever reason, though, the beast turned back at the very mouth of the canyon as if he had not seen us. A good thing, too, for I am sure it would take a full dozen big, strong adventurers (or maybe a hundred or so Fae) to face that creature!
- Coming down from where we saw the Dracoliche was something worth staring at... a great wall of flame rose straight out of the ground! Through the flames we could just make out an enormous temple! I must see if there is some way to get beyond this wall, short of "spitting" on it until we put it out! Maybe if I poured enough dwarven ale on it... hmmm.
- We turned to our right and soon came to a pack of nightmare hounds, and in the midst of them a lovely foal with a coat as dark and soft to the eye as soot, and just my size! Thinking to take it home with me I "encouraged" the hired help to clear out the hounds, but when we were done the foal turned ferocious and attacked us, forcing us to terminate it with extreme prejudice. Just my luck, the first decent ride I find and it bites. Upon the death of the foal, from back the way we had come along the wall of flame, we heard a tremendous thrashing, like a hundred smelly barbarians trying to dance, or a really big beast upset at being awakened.
- We headed towards the sound, of course, past an odd tower whose turret was filled with tortured spirits. Sneaking past the tower we found what was making the racket! A gigantic razormaw, although I never saw one quite that big back home in Darklight Wood! In a moment it was on us, and a great fight it put up, but my guides were able to stop it, finally sticking a sword through its eye and into its brain. My poisons may have helped a little.
- Turning our attention to the strange tower, I noticed a shimmering curtain of glowy red blocking the door. Then I recognized these braziers that stood on either side of the door! These were sacrificial braziers, just like the ones they use back home to roast the fresh hearts of "heretics" who have been put to the question by the Disciples of Innoruuk! Feeling a little homesick, I pulled 2 of the hearts out of my backpack and dropped one in each. As the sweet smoke rose the curtain of energy blocking our way into the tower vanished! Inside we found a well filled deep with blood. I could grow to like this place! Hmmm, perhaps here is a way beyond the tower?
Further examination of this possible route beyond the fire curtain must wait for another trip, for the time of my pre-arranged gate had arrived and we had to make haste to get to the evacuation point. I think that there may be an under-"water" tunnel from this well to the lake surrounding the temple we saw through the flames.

Addendums
In the morning patch on 10/9 they made one VERY important change and some additions.
- MOST mobs now see invis!
- The short towers that Krazie pointed out to me, with the comment that "those are empty, we have no idea what they are for..." now have 3 named mobs in them!
- They added another x2 epic mob. Krazie promised a screenshot with his next missive.
| I would like to thank Krazie and Eliad of Unholy Trinity on Test for their instant willingness to take me to Shard of Fear and show me around. Also, thanks to Dcon, of Test, for linking a ton of drops to me. --Bludwyng |
